Learning Style Inventory for Students (Grades 6+)

Without a clear understanding of how our students learn, there is little possibility we will be able to raise student achievement.

The Learning Style Inventory for Students (LSIS) is the most valid, reliable, and practical tool for assessing the different ways our students learn. Designed to be administered in an untimed, low-pressure environment, the LSIS asks students to use a simple ranking system to respond to a variety of questions about learning and school.

What are the benefits?

With the LSIS, teachers will learn how each of their students prefers to learn, what motivates each student, which teaching strategies work best, and which strategies are likely to be less than effective.

You’ll be amazed at the insight you gain into how your students learn. The data from the LSIS will provide you with all the information you need to:

  • • Develop individual education plans for individuals or classes
  • • Design differentiated instruction and assessment models
  • • Advise parents on homework and learning strategies
  • • Devise varied learning paths to help different students meet the same standards
  • • Work more effectively with struggling learners, special-needs students, and Tier II/Tier III learners (RTI)

The LSIS Features:

• A set of statistically validated questions that:
    - Help students think about and prioritize their learning preferences
    - Yield a comprehensive learning-style profile
    - Are designed around seven critical factors affecting student success
    - Deepen the learning-style profile by also assessing students’ attitudes towards
       learning (i.e., introversion and extroversion)
• An opening activity that uses a visual hook to begin the conversation about learning differences
• The most comprehensive online reporting system in education. The LSIS’s reporting system generates
customized reports for students, teachers, and administrators

Learning Profile Reports

As each student completes their LSIS, their answers will be stored in the secure LPS online database. The data is accessIble by teachers when they login. For every student who takes the LSIS, the teacher has the ability to generate Learner Profile Reports for both teacher and student use. Reports are viewable online or can be saved in a printer-friendly PDF format. In addition, teachers have the ability to generate a classroom report for an overall view of their diverse student body. Student and classroom data can be easily merged with district data for administrative use.
